Goals For the New Year!

on January 1, 2013

It’s amazing the difference a day can make.  Yesterday was all about looking back over the past year…the high and low points, where we went, what we did, thinking about new additions to friends and family as well as those we may have lost.  A time for reflection and celebrating that we all made it through another year.

Today however, today is about looking forward.  I am no fortune-teller so I have no idea what the next 12 months hold,  but given that whole free will thing, I look forward knowing that I do in fact have some control over the next year.  Enter new year goals.  I don’t know why, but I prefer the term goal to resolution.  I know it is sort of semantics and pretty much the same thing, but I prefer having a goal to work towards (I know silly, but whatever keeps you on track right?)

My Goals for 2013

  1. Lose weight.  This is probably the number one goal/resolution people make every year and probably the number one broken as well.  I made it last year and lets just say I fell off the wagon about half way through the year.  The difference between last year and this year is large goal vs. small goals.  I do have a certain amount I want to lose overall, but I am trying to stay small to better stay on track.  So my goal is to lose 7-9 pounds every month.  This seems attainable and hopefully will help keep me on track.
  2. Do what it takes to make my Etsy shop really successful.  I sort of stumbled on to the love/talent of painting little peg people and I have been shocked by the response thus far.  When I put up my first listing, I don’t think that I ever thought it would actually take off…but it did.  I had a great Christmas season and was earning money for the first time since my son was born (4 years).  So, I am going to keep this up and keep working to make fun little toys for kids and adding a little income to the family as well.
  3. Finish writing my book.  I started writing in November during NaNoWriMo and while I got off to a good start, peg people took over and my book got set aside.  It probably won’t ever get published, but I want to finish it.  I think that I just need to have my own personal NaNoWriMo in like June when life is a little less hectic so I can bang it out.
  4. Get organized.  Organization is definitely my Achilles heal and I need to work on this.  A desk is more than a place to just stack up unread mail…this is the mantra I need to adopt.

There are other small things on my list, but those are my major goals.  Hopefully I stick to following through on all of them.  What is your number one resolution/goal for the new year?  Any tricks or tips to sticking with it?  Whatever it may be, good luck, and I am sending out good thoughts and wishes to you as we all start a new year!
